DJ MURO's first press

DJ MURO has just finished up two special shows in Sydney and Melbourne that showcased his new EP ‘first press’ which was released on the 19th of March, in a limited release of only 500 copies and sees the artist collaborate with Deus Records. We caught up with the Japanese musician to ask him about the new collab, his inspiration and the resurgance of vinyl.

For those who don’t know you, you are a DJ, recording artist and producer from Japan. What else do we need to know about DJ MURO?

I also run an apparel brand called “RECOGNIZE.”

You’re returning to our shores this week for the release of your Limited Edition Vinyl ‘The MURO Vinyl’ Can you tell us about the release?

For this project, my production partner Olive Oil and I were inspired by beer breweries and vinyl pressing plants during the creative process.

I feel that vinyl is being rediscovered as a tangible object across generations.

Vinyl has made a major comeback in the last couple of years. Why do you think this is?

I feel that vinyl is being rediscovered as a tangible object across generations.

How did the collaboration with Kirin Ichiban and Deus Records come about?

I was honored to be personally approached by the Australian team.

You will be playing two very special shows in Sydney and Melbourne whilst in Australia. What can fans look forward to at these shows?

Along with our ‘first pressed’ vinyl by Kirin Ichiban & Deus Records, I want to use this opportunity to share the beauty of Japanese music with the people of Australia.

in Australia, people engage with music instinctively, which I really appreciate.
— DJ MURO

How does playing shows here compare to playing shows in Japan? Are the audience and vibe different?

In Japan, there’s a tendency to be reserved, but in Australia, people engage with music instinctively, which I really appreciate.

What else are you looking forward to seeing or doing while you’re here?

Of course, I’m excited to visit record stores, but Australia is also rich in nature, so I’d love to see the greenery and the ocean.

Besides your passport, what’s the one essential you HAVE to take on the tour, especially on an overseas tour?

Cough drops.

Who in your touring entourage or team deserves a shout-out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?

Since I don’t speak English, I am always grateful for my interpreter’s help.

I hope that through this experience, people will grow to love Japanese music and Kirin Ichiban.

I hope that through this experience, people will grow to love Japanese music and Kirin Ichiban.
